Mysore Intenstive with Peter Sanson @Ashtanga Yoga Brussels
Another year has passed and I find myself again in Brussels for yet another mysore intensive with Peter Sanson, a senior certified teacher from New Zealand. Indeed, Peter's workshop is truly intensive not in terms of doing many postures, or jump backs and throughs, but in terms of how he approaches you in your mysore practice. There's no escape. No way how to avoid your fears, anger or anxieties or whatever arises. He won't let you rush through or avoid asanas, or rather, what is being held inside. With a gentle voice, full of compassion and kindness, he will ask you to go back to a pose and do it again with him and breathe deeply. And maybe he will ask you after the pose to finish for that day. That's a very powerful skill to know when the student should finish on a given day and Peter Sanson has mastered it. With a natural sense of authority you look at a teacher in his element while touching, moving and guiding bodies to poses that their owners thought impossible. But that's not all. While working with you, he looks deeply into your eyes and acknowledges you fully. He understands and accepts all of you and that's truly liberating. You feel it deeply in your gut that Peter wants to help you, make you feel whole again. No ego. No judgement. No bullshit. You can thus completely trust him, relax, let go and discover a whole new world of experience in a given asana. Once you've exprienced in in your system, the level of comfort, the deep deep experience and relaxation that you weren't even aware of is possible, there's no way of undoing it. You realize that there are depths to your practice yet to be discovered. That you only start grasping who you are and what this vehicle of a body is capable of. Traditional tuition of yoga at its best.
I am humbled and grateful to be able to study with Peter every year. You should, too :)
